Are you artistic or logic – Maybe both…

Look at the dancer below. What do you see? Is she turning clockwise or counter-clockwise? You just can’t help but love these optical illusions.

Dancer

If you see her turning clockwise (right) then your left side of the brain is doing most of the work, which means you are more of a logic/analyzing person.

If you see the dancer turning counter-clockwise (left) then your right side of the brain is in charge, this means you are the artistic/intuition person.

You control the way the dancer turns. Try looking at this with a few more people and see how everyone sees it different.

its that illusion thing..and it is very easy to convert it into counter clockwise and revert back again…all u ve to do is think the way u want it to rotate..all u ve to do is stop lookin at the pic for a 90 degree motion and again catch it in the direction u want it to move….now whwere does that leave my brain logical or artistic??

  2. Elevic says:

I think I found an easy way to make it in the other direction. The principle behind is the principle of completion or similar name in perception, i.e. perception of the shadow…try disrupting its movingments every now and then by clicking on the picture and dragging it a little…then switch ur focus suddenly to the other direction…it’s a little hard…but it works…

  3. Molly says:

I can change her direction within a few seconds of trying. Just imagine, as her extended hand rotates either in front or behind her (depending on your perspective), try imagining it the opposite: if she’s swinging it in front, imagine it passing behind her back. And vice-versa.

Nice site n very complete information. Hopefully, you ‘ll add more information. good luck

  9. I agree with Thinker.

I’ve only had a few moments to read just a few of the comments, but the ‘point of ambiguity’ where the angle of the dancer gives away the least amount of ‘hint’ of orientation is the best ‘time’ for a direction change to occur.

Off-hand, another thing to consider is that the visual field is hemisphere-specific with some mid-area of the total field that’s co-processed by both sides.

I noticed with a few tries that often the direction of the dancer would change opposite if I looked to the left of my monitor and then slowly moved my eyes to the right where the dancer was and vice versa. The direction change appeared consistent, but I didn’t think to note which.

Interesting tool, though. Will keep it on-hand!

It is really really easy to make the dancer spin whichever way u want. Just look at the pointed toe, when u look at the toe as it reaches the left side of the screen you make it go anti clockwise and as u look at the toe as it reaches the right side of the screen u can make it go clockwise.

  11. halo3gurl says:

actually if you stare at it for a while its turning both ways….. now matter where you look….

  12. hola123 says:

ok, this is not a mind game it is just set on a timer so it seems like ur seeing it change but its just the person who made this so i think that whoever did this was stupid and didnt think what other people whould say!

  13. Val says:

this is noting to do with the brain, the figure tufning bout ways.U can see it bearing on diferent leg, when is on R moves L to open-CCW,when is on L muves R to open/this is the normal mouv, try to mouv bacward?/-CW
This is just a good animation.

    Hey Guys!

So I see alot of people are having fun with this! For those having a rough time or think its set up try this….

When looking at her, conecentrate on one area (i.e. left foot, right hand etc) Now, just watch it spin the way you see it spinning a few times. If she spins clockwise, imagine the buzzing going on in the left side of your brain. Breath deep. You can feel it. If she spins counter clockwise for your, imagine your right side of the brain buzzing. Breath deep. You can feel it.

Now heres the kicker, while feeling the “buzz”, try to make the “buzz” move to the opposite side of your brain. Breath deep. Concentrate. You will feel it. Enjoi what happens;)

I’ve been doing this for about 15 minutes now and i can make her turn either way, on a dime. the closer together you make the movements back and forth you can “feel” both sides of your brain “linking”. I’m guessing this will come in handy in the next few years to come.

  15. jose says:

    ahah.. cmon!

she’s spinning clockwise but after some seconds she starts spinning counter-clockwise…

    thats just stupid…

thanks for making me spend 2 stupid minutes of my day :x

  16. denise says:

i think it just turns diferent ways every few sekonds!!

  17. Caleb MacDonald says:

i looked at the upper half first and saw a counter clockwise motion and then I looked at the foot and saw clockwise motion.

  21. person says:

It’s not an illusion, it’s a trick. The model is sometimes spinning clockwise and sometimes spinning counter-clockwise. Just watch her arms. When she turns clockwise, her right arm is bent and leading her body, and when she turns counter-clockwise her left arm is bent and leading her body.

But sometimes it takes a few minutes, sometimes it only takes seconds

  24. Anon says:

    Too easy to see through.

  25. Dale says:

When I look away and glance at it or use perifial vision she is turning clockwise but when i stare directly at it she is turning counter clockwise.

  26. We could totally use a girl like this. No matter what model we use, some girls are going to hate her. Women are strange, I tell you.

  27. I’m not sure how anybody could interpret the dancer spinning counter clockwise…I must be REALLY analytical if I don’t see it while looking straight at it!

  28. Marc says:

I always see her clockwise. Thanks

  29. someone says:

    i can’t seem to see it counter-clockwise…

  30. Bill says:

I can control it with my finger if I cover up the head: just make your finger rotate clockwise or the opposite way and it will follow.

  31. Marc says:

  32. KNiFA says:

I can make it go both ways, but it mainly sticks to going Counter Clockwise~ Reminds me of the theories behind the music/lyrics/construction/art of He Dreams Awake~ Definitely out of Left Field.

  33. dwayne says:

THIS IS AWSOME! I GOT HER DOING THE MACAREINA!

  34. mitja says:

if you *almost* close your eyes so that only shadows are still moving you can easily convince yourself that she is turning in any of the directions. When you open your eyes she will be turning in the wished direction. VOILA!

  35. cristian says:

    is a beautiful blog

  36. Flu says:

I cannot make her turn clockwise! I’ve tried the many tips listed below only to catch a fleeting moment of the clockwise illusion. I consider myself both intuitive and logical.

  37. millo says:

earlier i used to see her rotating anti clockwise though i could change her. but now she doesnt rotate fully clockwise neither fully anti clockwise. she goes halfway right and then goes back hallfway left. what does that mean.

  38. Durr says:

    Are you artistic or logic?
    Logic?
    Logic.

  39. nadia says:

  40. Definitely clockwise… LOGIC, thanks!

  41. John says:

    This isn’t an optical illusion

  42. Just about all of what you state happens to be supprisingly accurate and that makes me ponder the reason why I hadn’t looked at this in this light previously. This particular piece truly did turn the light on for me personally as far as this specific subject matter goes. But there is one position I am not necessarily too comfortable with so while I try to reconcile that with the main idea of the position, allow me see what the rest of your visitors have to point out.Very well done.

  43. Denise says:

When her right leg is sticking out she is going clockwise and when her left leg is sticking out she is going counter clockwise. It just switches back and forth. There is no trick here.

  45. Alec The Bulgarian says:

Just try look at the shadow bellow the dancer. If you follow the shadow there will be no question for you – the dancer is spinning counter clockwise. The lifted leg is clearly moving from West to the North to the East….counter….
First time I saw this animation I decided there’s no place for discussion – I saw it clockwise. But when I noticed the shadow, I am sure the direction is counter clockwise….
So through observation, analysis and logic, I activated my creative and artistic side…. :P

  46. I enjoy reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to comment!

  47. Alex says:

@harrry it doesn’t, but the fact that you took the time to analyze it shows you to be a logical person.

  48. wash says:

  49. BPO Industry says:

This is insane, I have no idea what just went on up there at my brain. I’m going with clockwise, final answer.
