Dragontape – Video Playlist Redux

Dragontape – When it comes to video playlists, YouTube has always been my first choice. But that’s until they’ve decided to change their user interface yet again (about a month ago), and then all hell broke loose. Sure, it looks nice, but I still haven’t figured out how to set a continuous play mode for my playlist -they had it before but decided to take it out this time around- and this is not what I’d expect of YouTube.

Luckily there’s Dragontape, a swanky new video playlist maker/player on the scene, offering great service plus added stuff YouTube is currently lacking. Simply type in your artist name, song or other keyword into the site’s search box, find the video you’d like to add to the list and drag it to the desired location along the playlist row (see screen shot). Needless to say, everything here is dragabble, you can re-order the videos on the playlist, drag the entire playlist back and forth to rewind or forward the videos and loads more.

Dragontape has superseded YouTube in my video playlist book, and from this day forward, this is the service I’ll be using to enjoy online music videos. Highly recommended.

Cucirca – Watch Full TV Show Episodes

Cucirca – Claiming to be the “best place where you can find the latest news and watch online your favorite TV Shows,” Cucirca is a simply yet beautifully designed entertainment site offering important updates and free viewing of a large collection of entire TV show episodes.

Browse the featured videos and related news by clicking on the relevant letter/number on the top, or by the TV Show list on the right side of the homepage. Another way would be simply scrolling down the home page and seeing the recent posts. That’s how I found this full episode of Entourage season 7. Enjoy it.

CriticalPast is “one of the world’s largest collections of royalty-free archival stock footage.”

Aside from the obvious educational value CriticalPast possesses, the amazing footage you can explore on this site is simply phenomenal. Superb content along with a slick, easy to use interface make CriticalPast a must stop if you have some spare time in your daily routine. Browse the videos by decade, country, or simply type in a keyword into the site’s search box. See the video below of a German sailor dancing with a girl outside a house in Europe in 1913.

BoreMe – Bite-Size Entertainment

This is yet another terrific coffee break stop/offbeat site you will enjoy if you have a couple of spare minutes in your busy day. See the surprising video below to get a taste of the delights you will find on BoreMe.

Everyone – Beautifully Human

Everyone – One of the most inspiring media projects I’ve seen in a while, Everyone is a production company based in NY and Los Angeles. Having an impressive history of past clients such as NPR, Radiolab and Mediacom, Everyone is a visual content virtuoso, cleverly presenting the subtlety, oddity, beauty and narratives of the modern human culture.

There is no other way for you to understand what I’m referring to without sitting down for a couple of minutes and seeing the majestic power of superbly edited and shot, short movie stories of Everyone. See Words, my current favorite, below (by Everyone, in collaboration with WNYC’s Radiolab and NPR; directed by Daniel Mercadante & Will Hoffman; Supervising Producer: Robert Krulwich; Original Score: Keith Kenniff (unseen-music.com).

PopScreen – Setting Video Trends

PopScreen – Claiming to be a “video prediction engine,” this unique site seeks to offer users the most viral videos to-be and “the stories behind them.” PopScreen invites us to be the first among our friends to ‘discover’ the most buzzed videos out there (unrelated to Google Buzz, just hyped videos), and share them with our social networks.

The videos you’ll find here range from politics and science & tech to design, music, celebrities and loads more. Although it has yet to sweep a large user community, PopScreen is interesting in terms of its concept, and I am going to keep a close eye on its progress in the future. This site has found a way to make it easy for you to get whatever song you like, using YouTube videos. All you have to do is go to YouTube, copy the URL of your favorite video, and paste it on the MP3 Converter site. Wait for some 20 seconds and the MP3 file will be ready for download. It’s as simple as that.

I gave it a try with a lesser known yet just as amazing Jonny Cash song Tennessee Stud. It worked wonderfully.

Browse the various categories (from animation and art to action, drama, even sci-fi). See movies from all over the world, appreciate the power that lies in global talent, and feel free to submit a short movie of your own.
It was very difficult for me to choose just one movie to share with you guys, but I finally narrowed it down to the Italian movie, Notte Sento (with English subtitles), by Urban Team. You can also see the movie below. Enjoy.

Life In A Day – A Unique Ridley Scott Doc Film, Starring You

Life In A Day – Prepare yourself for a first of its kind documentary film, produced by the legendary Ridley Scott and directed by Kevin Macdonald, starring YOU! This amazing collaborative project with Google aims to create a collective documentary film, made up exclusively of footage shot and submitted by users. Here’s what you need to do: “On 24 July, you have 24 hours to capture a glimpse of your life on camera. The most compelling and distinctive footage will be edited into an experimental documentary film, exclusively produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Kevin Macdonald.”

To learn more about the Life In A Day project, check out this public document, and be sure to visit the YouTube channel for it. The finished film will be premiered sometime in early 2011. An announcement of the film’s exact premier date will be provided later on on the YouTube page. I bet we’re going to see some amazing stuff. Stay tuned.
